LICENSE TESTING

Important Volunteer Examiner (VE) session information—The Randolph VE team no can longer test on a “walk in” basis; you must preregister by the Thursday before the session. See our W4VEC page for information.

RARC holds VE test sessions for all classes of Amateur Radio Licenses on the 2nd Saturday of even numbered months (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec) at 10am at the Downstairs meeting room of the Randolph County public Library , 201 Worth Street, Asheboro. Any changes to this location will be communicaed at the time of pre-registration.

Due to Covid restrictions we now require preregistration via e-mail at least 2 days prior to the session. Please indicate in the e-mail which test you are planning to take. If you are sick, have a fever, or have been exposed to Covid we insist that you do not expose our team or others to danger. Absent this you must provide your own multi-layer/surgical mask.

Arrive a few minutes early to get settled in. Signs will direct you. Be sure to bring two pencils and a calculator with a memory that can be cleared (not a smart phone). We provide pencils, basic calculators, and scratch paper.

The fee is $12 per test (please bring exact change). Pass the Technician or General exam and get the next level test free that day; if time permits. Fee to re-take a failed exam element is $12.

**Required Paperwork**

We must send in a photocopy of your signed FRN document; your signed Covid Waiver; and a copy of your ID(s) and your signed amateur license (if any) with the test documents. No exceptions. We cannot test you if you do not have all of the required items.

Unlicensed Applicants will need $12.00 in exact cash; your FRN number document; a signed W4VEC Covid Waiver; two forms of ID, one with a photograph, (a driver’s license for example), and a photocopy showing the IDs and the FRN document. The FCC now requires an active e-mail address also. We cannot test you if you do not have all of the required items.

Licensed Applicants will need $12.00 in exact cash; a signed, “Certified Copy” of your license; your FRN number; a signed W4VEC Covid Waiver: an ID with a photograph (state-issued, a driver’s license for example), and a photocopy showing the IDs and license and the FRN document. NEW FCC REQUIREMENT:

Your FRN number must be associated with your e-mail address; the linking process may take more than one day! See below.

Linking Your FRN to Your E-Mail Address: The link below will get you to the CORES page and give you the option to “…./Reset your Username Password?” This is where you change your current Username to your e-mail address… Look below the Register button and click “Forgot/Reset your Username Password”. This will take you to the Reset Password page; from there follow the directions. From that point “User Name” is “Your e-mail address”

FCC Registration - Login

You may need to have an actual person interact with the process there is a button to do this. Just follow the directions and wait for the help person’s e-mail to arrive in a day or so to finish the process. After that you have your FRN linked to your e-mail per requirements; if you ever change your linked e-mail address you will have to start over and link the new one to your FRN. Here is the FCC help video link . Phone 1877-480-3201.

There is no copy machine available at the testing site!

Bring a Covid mask meeting state requirements!
