Good Morning Everyone,
I hope you enjoyed the teaser for Fall over the past several days, the NWS forecast for the coming week is for cool mornings and warm(er) afternoons. Astronomical Fall will begin at 3:31 PM on the 22nd and the annual trek to the mountains for Fall Color viewing starts about October 10, plus or minus a few days. Of course the drive to Greensboro can rival the viewing from the Parkway a lot of the time...or the view from my front porch for that matter. Having grown up on the coast--oops, THE Crystal Coast--I have an enduring wonder at the view from my front porch this time of year.
OK, back on track here--We, the Randolph Amateur Radio Club, will meet for breakfast at 8:00 AM this coming Saturday, the 11th, at David's 709 S. Fayetteville St. Hopefully the parking situation will be better. This comes after discussion during the club meeting last month.
Also beginning this coming Saturday is the Route 66 on the Air event. Nine days of hunt and pounce operation ending with, hopefully, a clean sweep--that's all 22 stations in the log book at least once. Speaking of putting something in the log book--Fall also brings HF contests and better HF conditions.
I just looked at DX Watch and found 26 countries listed as on the air and heard by someone somewhere. It's a contest weekend. Now WE couldn't hear all of them this morning, but many of them will be on the air the entire contest period giving US an opportunity, at some point, of working say "Volgogradskaya Oblast" or Singapore, or Tokalau Island.
"Far away places with strange-soundin' names Far away over the sea Those far away places with the strange-soundin' names Are callin', callin' me" CQ, CQ, CQ...
Don't forget our annual election of officers at our supper meeting on September 28th. We'll begin gathering in the Golden Corral at 6:00PM for supper and rag chew followed by elections--hopefully it will not require six weeks to count the ballots...
73, enjoy the pre-fall temps.
Butch, WS4H
